About the episode
This episode focuses on leadership in engineering teams in a distributed environment. Working with developers and integrating them with other company parts can be challenging. In a remote setup, the basic principles of daily standups, meetings, and coding might not work or would work differently. To discuss these challenges and possible solutions, Tobias Mende, who has led remote engineering teams for years, joins the talk.
About the guest
Tobias Mende is a software engineer, architect, tech lead, and product lead. He is the founder of unblocked.engineering, a consultancy for organizational development, engineering leadership, and developer experience focusing on remote companies.
Since he started his journey in software engineering over 20 years ago, he was naturally attracted by challenges around improving the workplace, improving the developer experience, and productivity as a side-effect. This made him dive into leadership, company culture, and organizational development. He sincerely believes that happy people do better work and that there isn't a conflict between people, purpose, and profit.
He is also the author of "DevEx Nuggets," a weekly newsletter on developer experience and engineering leadership.
